Hillary About Me Photo.jpg

BACKGROUND & VALUES

As a dedicated member of the Town of Halton Hills community, a wife, mother, and small business owner, I am committed to fostering positive change and supporting well-planned, responsible growth. My great-grandparents moved to town in 1946 and operated a small business where my grandfather would eventually work. My father was born and raised here and my children are fifth generation Halton Hills residents. My journey is grounded in a deep sense of responsibility to our town, its residents, and its future. This commitment drives my passion to serve our community with thoughtful, relatable, and principled leadership. We cannot get this next step in our towns future wrong.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE & VISION

My experience in our community is united by a consistent focus on timely, effective problem-solving. Whether assisting residents at Halton Hills’ oldest law firm or coordinating rapid responses during HVAC emergencies, these roles—alongside the responsibilities of motherhood—have equipped me with the skills to identify challenges and deliver practical solutions. I am committed to advancing a well-planned vision for the future that emphasizes proactive leadership rather than reactive decision-making. My hope for Halton Hills is to preserve its unique character and natural beauty while fostering a safe, resilient, and prosperous local economy. I will work to ensure Halton Hills remains a community where our children and grandchildren choose to build their futures.

What To Know About Me.

I am a resident of Ward 2 – Rural Halton Hills, where I live with my husband, Kyle, and our three school-aged children. Kyle is a firefighter and former OHL Guelph Storm hockey player, and together our family owns and operates a small heating and air conditioning business in Halton Hills. When we get a free minute we love hiking with our two German Shepherds in Limehouse Conservation, Silvercreek Conservation or Prospect Park.

Before focusing on our family business, I worked at large law firms in downtown Toronto and Mississauga, followed by several years at a local firm, gaining experience across multiple areas of law and advocating in courts throughout the province. I have also served on the Paralegal Advisory Committee at Sheridan College and acted as a mock trial judge at various moots.

Today, I am actively involved in the community and can often be found at local schools, Parent Advisory Committees, the rink, or the pool supporting my family and our community. You may have even seen me in work boots and trades attire, lending a hand alongside one of our licensed technicians during an HVAC installation—whether in the middle of a summer heatwave or a winter cold snap.

Through these everyday interactions, I have had the opportunity to speak with residents in many different settings about the issues that matter most to them. I believe this has given me a strong understanding of what is working well, what is not, and where meaningful conversations and action are needed. My background, family, and long-standing connections throughout Acton, Limehouse, Glen Williams, Norval, and the broader rural Halton Hills community allow me to relate to residents across all walks of life.

I am seeking election as the Regional Councillor for Halton Hills, representing Wards 1 and 2, in the upcoming municipal election. I am committed to serving as a thoughtful, informed, and effective advocate for our community, ensuring that the voices and priorities of residents are well represented at the regional level.

MY MISSION
MY STORY

Focused on What Matters to You!

In 2022, our family experienced a devastating house fire. At the time, my husband was serving as a volunteer firefighter with Halton Hills. Thankfully, no one was home, and Halton Regional Police officers were able to rescue our dogs. We lost nearly everything to the fire, smoke, and water damage. It was one of the most humbling experiences of our lives.

Looking back, that fire became the catalyst for why I decided to run for Regional Council.

At the time, we lived on Delrex Boulevard, just minutes from most retirement residences and the majority of the mid- and high-rise building in Halton Hills.

While we’ve changed addresses, my commitment to this entire community has only grown stronger. That experience shaped how I see public safety, and it reinforced that every resident, no matter which ward they live in, deserves to know help will be there when they need it most.

When I arrived at our home, I watched police officers and firefighters risking their own lives to protect our home and rescue our dogs. I will never forget that moment. Then I learned something that completely shocked me.

One of the first trucks to arrive at our home had come from Acton. I remember thinking, “If the Acton truck is here, who is protecting Acton?” That question stayed with me long after the fire was over.

I was incredibly grateful that my family was safe. Belongings can be replaced. People cannot.

In the days and weeks that followed, our community surrounded us with support. Local businesses helped find our family a temporary place to live. Friends, neighbours, and complete strangers stepped forward to help us rebuild.

Most of all, I gained an even deeper appreciation for the first responders who dedicate their lives to protecting our community. They answer the call on what is often the worst day of someone else’s life, putting themselves in harm’s way without hesitation. I saw the very best of Halton Hills during one of the hardest moments of our lives.

As time passed, I started asking questions. I began watching public meetings and listening to discussions about the challenges facing our fire service. I learned that staffing shortages had, at times, resulted in the south station being unavailable because there simply weren’t enough firefighters available to keep every station operating.

Those conversations deeply concerned me. I also watched our Fire Chief explain what he believed the department needed to meet the demands of our growing community.

I watched discussions about significant overtime costs while firefighters continued working exhausting shifts to ensure residents remained protected. At the same time, many volunteer firefighters invested hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars of their own money to keep certifications and physical testing current, hoping for opportunities to continue serving this community in full-time roles. I watched dedicated firefighters leave Halton Hills for opportunities with neighbouring departments. That was difficult to see because we have an outstanding fire department filled with exceptional people who genuinely care about protecting our community.

I have tremendous respect for our firefighters, our Fire Chief, and the leadership within the department. They understand the operational realities of protecting our residents, and I believe their professional expertise deserves to be heard.

The fire on Trafalgar Road reminded all of us how quickly a major emergency can happen. I was relieved to hear that the firefighter who was hospitalized after suffering from heat exhaustion was released, and I wish him a full recovery. Incidents like these are also a reminder of the demanding conditions firefighters face every time they answer a call.

As Halton Hills continues to grow, and as major developments like Vision Georgetown move forward, we must ensure our emergency services grow alongside our community.

Public safety isn’t a luxury.

It isn’t optional.

It’s one of the most important responsibilities any council has.

As this election approaches, I encourage everyone to look beyond campaign promises. Watch the council meetings. Read the public reports. Learn where candidates have stood on supporting first responders and investing in public safety over the past several years. Then make an informed decision. For me, this isn’t politics. This is personal.

I know what it’s like to stand on your front lawn watching your home burn. I know what it’s like to rely on first responders during the worst day of your life.

That experience changed me, and it strengthened my belief that protecting our families must always come first.

If I’m elected as your Regional Councillor, I will always advocate for the resources, planning, and support our first responders need to keep our community safe. Because every family deserves to know that when they call for help, help will be there.
